Round 2 Reserves Match Report -V- Brighton 2012

On Saturday the reserves took on Brighton in our first home game of the season, in what was a tough hard fought contest.

We expected the game to be a physical encounter and in the first quarter Brighton were first to the ball, won the contested football and got the jump on us. To play our style of football we still need to win the ball and our contested football was no where near were it should have been.

After the quarter time break we started to get some fluency into our game and pegged back the difference to go into the main break with a one point lead.

In the second half we won more of the ball and were able to feed our runners to play more to our strengths and run out with a hard fought 25 point win.

Apart from the first quarter where we put our defenders under immense pressure by not putting enough pressure on our opponents up the ground, we had another even spread of contributors.

The back six where well lead again by Trent Clarke and Scotty Bester. Stuart Clarke played his best game for the club running off half back. Chris ‘Lloydy’ Harper applied the CLAMP!

Up forward Jack Anning gave us some spark across the half forward line when we became stagnate going forward in this area and Brodie Phillips finished with three goals for the Day.

Josh ‘Yonna’ McWilliams and Michael VanBeest worked hard in the ruck as did Brenton ‘Pup’ Allie when the ball was on the ground. Both wingers Simon McCarthy and Jimmie Mitchell got lots of football due to their run.
