Round 15 Senior Report

Due to our ground being closed, last week we travelled to Brighton to take on Triabunna. It was nice to play on a surface that was dry and free of mud and our guys enjoyed the change. Big thanks to the Brighton Football club for allowing this to happen.

The big ground was always going to suit our style and we were able to dominate every quarter and run out 171 point victors. Although we won by a big margin i still believe we’re far from our best. At the moment we’re making too many basic errors which is something we need to address quickly. I think we have a lot of improvement in us going forward which is a positive for the club.

We had some great performers on the day, none better than Jamie Tubb who booted 14 goals. Justin O’Brien is starting to recapture his best form, Tim Bracken was a giant at half forward, while Kurt Baker, Justin Rainbird, Kase Miller and Gavin Quirk were all strong contributors.

Next week we travel to Sorell which is a game we’re looking forward to as they gave us a big test last time we met.

Round 11 Senior Report

Last week we travelled to Kingston Beach Oval to take on an improving Kingborough. Its always hard to win down there with the small ground throwing up something different than what we're used to.
We wanted to start building some momentum for the coming weeks and needed to put in a strong performance against quality opposition. We were able to take early control of the game with our midfield working hard and our forwards on top. We went into the first break with a 3 goal lead but knew we had work to do. The second quarter seen us waste opportunities, we made some poor decisions with the football and turned it over far too much but were able to extend the lead to 26 points at half time. The second half was much the same with us not being able to completely shake the determined young Tigers until late in the game and finally ran out 42 point winners.
Better players on the day were captain Nick Braslin who continues his great form, Brendon Johnson was fantastic through the midfield, Robert Harwood is starting to hit good form while our whole baclike continue to stand up every week.
Next week we're back at home when we take on Brighton.

Round 9 Senior Report

Last week saw us suffer our first defeat of the season when we travelled to Boyer to take on the undefeated New Norfolk. Our guys found out first hand just what good sides will do to you if you constantly make skill errors.

The guys started well, applying lots of pressure and were able to attack hard early in the game. We kicked the first 3 goals of the game and took a 2 goal lead to the first break. The next 2 quarters were totally dominated by New Norfolk, there ability to make us pay for every mistake highlighted just how good they are. In the last quarter we tried extremely hard and to our credit we were able to win the quarter.

We probably didn’t have a full 4 quarter performer on the day but we had a lot of guys who contributed at different stages. Dave Scott and Nathan Barton were solid running off half back, Justin Myers and Nick Braslin tried hard through the midfield and Luke Goodsell battled hard all day.

We’re looking to bounce back this week when we take on Huonville at home.

Round 8 Senior Report

In what was our best performance of the season our Seniors defeated Dodges Ferry by 60 points at Anzac Park last week. It was a clash of two undefeated in form teams and both sides were aware of the importance.

The start of the game was played at a frantic pace with both sides throwing themselves at the footy, although we kicked the first goal it was Dodges who took early control booting the next 4. Our guys worked hard in the latter part of the quarter to kick 3 of our own to be only 1 point down at the first break. At the break we spoke about making sure our performance was consistent right through the game and we responded with an 8 goal to 2 second quarter to take in a handy 34 point half time lead.

We knew they would come out tough after the break so we had to make sure we were able soak that up and keep the pressure on the scoreboard and we did that kickeing 3 goals while holing them goalless and took a 53 point lead to the final break. In the last quarter we continued our hard work kicking 4 goals to 3 to run out 10 goal winners.

In a great team performance Gavin Quirk was fantastic through the middle, Tim Bracken was unbelievable up forward taking one of the best marks ever taken! Luke Goodsell was great down back and Kurt Baker gathered a lot of it either up forward or in the midfield.

This week we face the great challenge of travelling to Boyer to take on New Norfolk, our guys must be focused on doing the right things if we’re to be competitive.

Round 6 Senior Report

Last week we travelled to Oatlands to take on the Central Hawks.

We expected a tough game as they were also undefeated and always hard to beat up there. We experienced some of the worst conditions possible for football with the wind howling and the temperature almost below zero!!!!! This didn’t faze our guys as we put in our strongest 4 quarter performance of the year.

The first quarter seen us kick against a pretty strong breeze and although they kicked the first 2 goals we were able to stem the flow late in the quarter and break even for the quarter which was a great result. The second quarter we attacked very hard and were able to kick 5 goals while keeping them goalless. After half time we took control of the game, our work rate and pressure were fantastic and was the major reason for our strong 68 point victory.

In what was a very solid team performance Daniel Rattenbury was great through the midfield, Aaron Hilder continued his great early season form, Justin O’Brien was a solid contributor and the whole back 6 were fantastic.

We have the Bye this week which gives us some time to freshen up and look forward to another tough challenge after the break when we play the in form Dodges Ferry.
