Reserves Preliminary Final Report

Glorious conditions greeted us at North Hobart when we took on the force that was New Norfolk in the Preliminary Final on Saturday.  We held no reservations that this was going to be a tough ask but we held the belief that if we put it all on the line and took risks, that we were good  enough to cause an upset.

We played some spirited football and probably had more use of the ball, we had everybody contributing but we were let down by our skill errors which caused turnovers and New Norfolk were able to counter more effective than us.

Our back line held up super strong in the face of New Norfolk’s three pronged power forwards.  Ricky Batt proved how valuable a player he has been for us all season, Shaun Haberfield had another terrific game by keeping his direct opponent under control and by giving us some attack from our defence and Dave Smith used his smarts to counter our opponents attacks.  Trent Laird also played a good game from the half back flank.

On the ball and up forward Tom Robinson was elusive and hard working and Daniel Rattenbury tried hard all day in and under the packs.

Every coach goes into the season with the only goal being a premiership but what this group of young men have achieved in the last two years is remarkable and they all should be proud of that fact.  If it wasn’t for the inclusion of New Norfolk and Kingbourgh then maybe The Lindisfarne football club reserves could of had a premiership this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the seniors all the best for this Saturday.  With some belief, hard work and a never say die attitude, I am sure we can cause the upset.  All the best, bring it home for the Two Blues….
