Round 2 Vs Huonville 2013

The Lindisfarne Nu-Jet Two Blues went into their round 2 clash with 3 changes from our disappointing loss to Kingborough. Jordan Watson, Declan Crawford and Matt Stevenson came into the senior line up after pleasing performances in the Reserves. Great feeling to be back on the home turf at Anzac Park, up against a competitive Huonville outfit.

After jumping out of the blocks, the boys went into quarter time with a handy 26 point lead: 5.4 34 to Huonville 1.2 8.

Half time saw the lads with a lead of 34 points and looking to break the game open 9.12 66 to Huonville 5.2 32. Key play markers Nick Braslin, Dexter Bertoldo and Sam Proctor were all finding plenty of the footy.

The last half saw the boys really take control in the midfield and open up a match winning lead. The combination of Swan and Marriot up forward was providing plenty of headaches for the Lions defenders. By 3/4 time, the Two Blues had opened up a sizeable 47 point lead.

With plenty of midfield rotations our fitness and skill levels improved as the game went on and this was evident on the score board.

The game finished with the Two Blues running out eventual 61 point winners. Ruckman Todd Willing dominated the ruck contests all day and earned himself BOG. The ever reliable duo of David Clark and Nick Hobden showed plenty of dash and they repelled any attack that went into the back half. While the coaching staff was pleased with the result there is certainly a lot of room for improvement after our first 2 rounds of footy. This week we take on Cygnet @ Cygnet which promises to be a very tough encounter

Round 5 Seniors Report -V- Cygnet 2012

The Lindisfarne Nu-Jet Two Blues went into their Round 5 clash with the Cygnet Power on the weekend, looking to make it 5 and zippo and build on our promising start to the season. With the SFL rep game the weekend after, the boys were keen to put in a strong performance going into the week off.

With a cold, wet and windy forecast ahead both teams knew it was going to be an old fashioned brand of football that would bring home the chocolates. With Declan Crawford out sick with a nasty case of the runs, Josh ‘Squish’ Hobden came in to play his first senior game of the season. This was a good reward for Josh, who had a super pre season and some solid form in the Reserves. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Josh’s driving skills – Josh had a bit of Lara bingle on the way to Cygnet, but escaped unharmed and we were glad he eventually made it to the ground in one piece.

For the 5th game in straight the boys ran out after a victory in the Reserves – super work from Menz and the boys.
The first half saw a very even contest in ordinary conditions with Cygnet playing a tough and competitive brand of football. We entered the major break 6 points up, 6.4: 40 to Cygnet 5.4: 34. Midfielders Sam Hodben, Marty Allison and Nick Braslin were the pick of the players during the first half.

After a well deserved rocket from Coach Goodwin the boys ran back out onto the paddock with plenty to prove in the 2nd half. Michael Clarke worked himself into the game with 2 early sausages and George Fitzgibbon was moved up the ground and instantly proved a spark which been missing early in the game. By ¾ time the game was in the bag with the Two Blues leading by 37 points.

The final quarter saw the margin increase to 58 points with Fitzgibbon and Jenkins slotting through goals to make it a 3 pack a piece. The final siren sounded with the Lindisfarne Nu-Jet Two Blues defeating the Cygnet Power 15.8: 98 to 6.4: 40.

Best players were Batt, Fitzgibbon, Allison, S. Hobden, Swan & Braslin
Goal Kickers: Fitzgibbon & Jenkins 3, Swan, Allison, M. Clark & J Hobden 2, Allie 1.

Congratulations and good luck to Gavin Quirk, Mitchell Swan, Matt Phillips and Marty Allison who will be representing the SFL in Ulverstone on the 19th May. Matt has also been selected in the State U/23 squad which is a great effort.

Players/Supporters are also reminded about our next club function. Sat 26th May after our home game against the East Coast Bombers – put this date in your diary!!!

Round 1 Seniors Match Report – 2012

2012 Round 1 Lindisfarne -v- Dodges ferry
Coach Adrian Goodwin has a Pre-game Meeting with the Senior side

After a long tough pre season the Lindisfarne Nu-Jet Two Blues headed to Dodges Ferry for their first roster game of the 2012 season. After 4 solid practice matches and a week off over Easter the boys were cherry ripe and chomping at the bit to get out on the park.

The senior group had a number of debutants on the weekend which included David Clark, Rubin Smith, Robbie Jackman, and Nathan Mills on duel registration from Clarence. We also had former LFJC players Jake Jenkins and Marty Alison playing their first senior game for the club, very pleasing to see a few lads progressing through the underage pathway into the senior ranks.

The group also welcomed back former players Nick Braslin and Gavin Quirk. Great to see these boys back in the Two Blues line up.

After watching Menza’s group in the Reserves register a fantastic win, the boys ran out onto a very hot and humid Shark Park. The opening quarter saw plenty of tough contested footy with both teams applying quality physical pressure, the boys settled through goals to Marriot and Fitzgibbon and went into ¼ time 2.5 17 to Dodges Ferry 3.1 19.

The 2nd quarter was begun very much like the first with not much separating both teams. With hot playing conditions the two Goody’s had the bench working over time with rotations. With all the boys putting in a super pre season we were already able to see the benefits of this in our fitness levels for the first game. Goals to Swan and Fitzgibbon saw us enter half time with a small advantage 4.8 32 to Dodges Ferry 3.5 23. Captain Justin Myers along with Jamie Ford and Nick Hobden were leading the way for the Two Blues down back.

The second half remained a close hard fought contest with the Two Blues controlling majority of the play but unable to put the results on the scoreboard. Jenkins and Alison bobbed up to register their first goals for the club, with many more to follow no doubt.

The final siren sounded with the Two Blues registering a close 9 point victory, a fantastic way to start the 2012 season. The margin could have been greater if we had kicked straight in the final term, however a victory at Shark Park is never easy so we were wrapt to take the 4 points away and have the club walk away with 2 wins.

Lindisfarne 7.22 64 Def Dodges Ferry 8.7 55

Best players for the day were: Myers, Ford, Alison, N. Hodben, M. Phillips, Mills

Goals: Fitzgibbon 2, Marriot, Swan, Alison, Jenkins 1

We now look forward to our first home game this weekend against Brighton. This game will be a great challenge for the boys to test ourself against another strong SFL opponent. We have built up a great rivalry with Brighton over the past few seasons so we’d love to see as many supporters as possible turning up to support the boys taking on the Robins.

Players/Supporters are also reminded about our first club function for the year kicking off at 7pm at the club rooms.

Round 1 Senior Report 2011

In what was Adrian Goodwin’s first game as new Club Coach, and a long pre-season for the players, the opening game proved to set the future for 2011.
Starting slowly with the wind, the boys, under new Club Captain Justin Myers, lead by only four points at the first change.
The second quarter showed the Nu-Jet Blues in better light with Nick McWilliams adding another goal to his tally with newcomer Justin “Maz” Marriott blasting his way around all parts of the ground and booting some massive kicks to penetrate the forward line.  Maz went on to kick five majors for the game with Nicko kicking four.  Michael “Pup” Clark was sensational in contests,  Justin Myers showed leadership though demonstration.  An unselfish handpass to Assistant Coach Marriott from Cam Potter after taking a contested mark 40m out directly in front resulted in no score as the siren sounded as soon as Maz took the ball.  Brothers Brody and Matt Phillips showed their respective talents, and Justin “Froggy” Fielding did some excellent ground work and Paul Jackson ably undertook the second ruck and forward roles with a newly-honed Ricky Batt proving a hard-contesting player in our back line.
With the Blues 20 points up at the last break, they managed to outscore the Hawks against the wind with the Blues ending four goals up over the Hawks at the final siren.

We look forward to taking on Cygnet at their Slab Rd home next week.
