Round 5 Reports – 2011

Round 5 Reports -V- Huonville at Huonville

The Lindisfarne Football Club wishes to announce Co-Op Toyota of Argyle St as a new major sponsor for the Nu-Jet Blues for the 2011 Season.  Co-Op have been supporting football in southern Tasmania for decades and continue to do so with this signing.  With Toyota as the naming sponsor for the AFL Season, it provides a natural space for Co-Op Toyota to fill in our league in Southern Tasmania.  Please contact Co-Op for all your new cars needs.  The Club thanks Brad Costelloe, Stuart Hawkesford and the whole team from servicing, spare parts, retail, fleet and administration at Co-Op and we look forward to a long future together.  Remember: when you thinks cars – think Co-Op.

I’d also like to welcome all the past LFC players who have come in from interstate this week who are watching today’s game and wish them well.

Seniors

After a very disappointing first half, which saw the Nu-Jet Blues trailing by three goals, a good spray from Coach Goodwin got the Seniors to regroup.  With a greater determination, the boys met the Lions front-on and proved that the Blues are in this season to win.  The tenacity and fitness which is a hallmark of this season’s group won out on the day.  Even with the siren blowing twice as Mitch Williamson took the final kick in both the 3rd and final quarters.  Although a small margin separated the teams at the end of the match, it proves that Lindisfarne is a true contender for finals this year.  Leading goal-kickers were Williamson with five and Marriott with three.  Excellent performances from “Pup” Clark, “Squish” Hobden, Flood and “I get bums on seats” Batt.  We look forward to playing the Glenorchy Magpies this week at home in front of supporters, sponsors and our past player visitors.

Reserves

The Reserves played some hard-fought football in a low-scoring game.  With the score on the cutting-edge throughout the whole game, the 30 minute final quarter saw the Lions boot the final goal in a closely contested match to equalise the scores.  Unfortunately, the siren sounded on the final bounce to see a rare draw.  Great, competitive football was the winner on the day with Dave Woolley, Dex Bertoldo, Chris Turner and “Tonguer” Clarke excelling.

Colts

The newly-formed Lindisfarne Colts suffered their first defeat for 2011 at the hands of the Lions last week.  Even with seasoned Colts campaigners Jye Bannister, Nathon Brown, Jordan Watson and Jordan McCullum, the Nu-Jet Colts were underdone against a more experienced side.  The hard-playing Huonville boys showed the new recruits the style of play which wins SFL competitions:  tenacity.  However, Jacob Walker, Jordan Rogerson and Arnie Kelly proved their worth and played well against a style of play against which they were not accustomed.  The young bloods of the day have learned from last week and hope to make a good impression this week against the Magpies at home.

Round 19 Colts Report

Saturday saw the colts take on Huonville in our last game at Anzac Park for the season.

Due to a lack of numbers we were forced to feild 16 players and many thanks to Houville as they did the same.

The first Half was tight and even and the boys had many chances and we went into the major break 3 goals down but confident of pulling of an upset.

Unfortunately the boys ran out of legs in the second half and the well-drilled Luions side kicked away.

Better players for the day included Bodie Savage and Pete Suwathi down back, Jordan McCullum in the middle and Kizza and Nathan Brown up forward.

Special mention to Nath Brown's Left foot snap that I'm sure his still tralking about!

Next Week we play Sorell at Pembroke Park in what would will be our last game for the season.
