Round 8 Preview & President Update

I welcome you all to ANZAC Park for what is to be a good contest between the Nu-Jet Blues and the Robins.Nu_jet blues

With a disappointing losses in round seven to Dodges Ferry, the Blues are looking forward to regaining their momentum in this, the first game played under lights for the senior club.

We wish spectators all the best and hope you enjoy this landmark game for the Blues.  I’d also like to draw your attention to the signage around the ground regarding the drinking of alcohol.  The Lindisfarne Football Club is working in close cooperation with the Clarence City Council, Liquor and Gaming, and Tasmania Police in curbing alcohol-related incidents at sporting events.  We actively encourage barracking for, and support of, your club in the interest of Good Sports, of which the Club is a Level Two accredited organisation.

Alcohol is only permitted to be purchased and consumed in the clubrooms.  A selection of hot and cold food as well as tea, coffee and soft drinks is available at the canteen.

Congratulations to Seniors player Matt Phillips (Guernsey #38) for being selected in the State U/23 squad after a sterling performance last weekend in the SFL side, being named second on ground in what was a hard fought game – especially since the U/23s had eight on the bench!.  Congratulations also to my son Cam (Seniors player #14) for playing his first representative game in Tasmania in last week’s game.

Finally, I’d like to thank Shaun and Leon from Tasmanian Traffic Management for their time and efforts in managing the road closure this afternoon as well as to Jenny Howell of Clarence City Council and Brendan Smith of Tasmania Police for their assistance in making this afternoon and evening a success.

Round 6 Reports – 2011

May 7th and 8th saw two reunions of past players at ANZAC Park.  On the Saturday a large group watched the club battle Glenorchy to record an easy win in the Reserves and a hard fought win for the Nu-Jet Blues over the Magpies by 10 points.  On Sunday, a reunion was held at the rooms for the U17 and U19 squads of the 1960’s.  Men travelled from all around Australia, from Perth WA, Warrnambool VIC and the Gold Coast Qld.  The functions were ably catered by Frank and Bev Shadwick for the Saturday and by ladies of the 60’s group on the Sunday.

Special thanks go to:  My wife, Carolyn, for her 13 hours of toil on the gate and behind the bar,  Meg and Brooke in the canteen, Andrew Santi for filling in everywhere, Justin Myers for the handmade schnitzels for dinner and Paul Jackson for his bar work on Saturday night.  Thanks to Club stalwart Bev Shadwick for cleaning on Sunday morning before the hordes arrived and Jacko again for helping me on Sunday behind the bar.  Of course a big thanks to all the past players who made last weekend so enjoyable.  Barrett Dickson, Scott Godfrey, Phil Morgan, Steve Midson, Ian Pearce and Wayne Cashion deserve special mention due to their work and support over the weekend.  Rest assured, boys, your Club is in good hands!

Round 4 Reports – 2011

Round 4 Reports -V- East Coast Bombers at Anzac Park

Seniors

The Nu Jet Blues hosted a rejuvenated East Coast Bombers outfit in difficult swirly conditions at ANZAC Park on Saturday. The opening quarter saw the Two Blues jump out of the blocks to kick an inaccurate five goals nine 39 and holding the Bombers to a solitary two behinds. This trend was to continue for the remainder of the contest, the two blues kicked away at every change eventually winning by 148 points kicking an inaccurate 31 behinds. The game was predominately played in the Two Blues forward half with forward line efficiency being the order of the day. In all, the Nu Jet Blues had a good spread of 11 goal kickers and were well served by our back six and hard running midfielders. A trip to Huonville this week will give us our sternest test to date with the outcome giving us a true indication to where we are at.

Reserves

Our Reserves Coach Spoof Turner has the boys firing with its second win in a row against an under-manned East Coast Bomber side on Saturday.  With a dominating midfield and hard running defence the bombers were no match for the Two Blues as they won by plenty. Big Jacko, young Jac Standen, evergreen Wools and Squishy taking the honours against the Bombers with seasoned campaigner Mitch Leale kicking seven goals.

Colts

Last week saw Lindisfarne put its first Colts side onto the field for 2011. With a mixture of Nu-Jet Blues Colts from the previous two years and some new recruits, we had a four-point win over a Lauderdale-enhanced East Coast Bombers side. All players played hard and Lindisfarne Junior Football Club stalwart and U16 State player Dan Blazely running hard all day along with Alex Elwell, Toby Godfrey, and the Jordans McCullum and Rogerson all adding great depth.

The boys are keen to play and Huonville looks to be a great challenge.

Round 1 Senior Report 2011

In what was Adrian Goodwin’s first game as new Club Coach, and a long pre-season for the players, the opening game proved to set the future for 2011.
Starting slowly with the wind, the boys, under new Club Captain Justin Myers, lead by only four points at the first change.
The second quarter showed the Nu-Jet Blues in better light with Nick McWilliams adding another goal to his tally with newcomer Justin “Maz” Marriott blasting his way around all parts of the ground and booting some massive kicks to penetrate the forward line.  Maz went on to kick five majors for the game with Nicko kicking four.  Michael “Pup” Clark was sensational in contests,  Justin Myers showed leadership though demonstration.  An unselfish handpass to Assistant Coach Marriott from Cam Potter after taking a contested mark 40m out directly in front resulted in no score as the siren sounded as soon as Maz took the ball.  Brothers Brody and Matt Phillips showed their respective talents, and Justin “Froggy” Fielding did some excellent ground work and Paul Jackson ably undertook the second ruck and forward roles with a newly-honed Ricky Batt proving a hard-contesting player in our back line.
With the Blues 20 points up at the last break, they managed to outscore the Hawks against the wind with the Blues ending four goals up over the Hawks at the final siren.

We look forward to taking on Cygnet at their Slab Rd home next week.
